A good friend of mine was my inspiration to enter this contest. He's a well known driftwood sculptor and during one of our casual conversations about his work, he told me that he's an award chaser. He prides himself on all of the fine art contests that he's entered and won throughout his career. After we had that talk, I realized that I've never won an award for my art and that's because I've never entered any sort of contest. After a quick Google search, this contest was the first to pop up. I grew up on the original 150 Pokémon and I thought it would be a great challenge. Looking at the entries from the previous year, I knew the competition would be steep but that didn't deter me. The theme was "Magical Pokémon Moments." My idea was to take the ferocious Charizard and show him in a more tranquil manner. Unfortunately, I didn't win. I didn't even place in the top 300 but I'm still proud of my creation and I wanted to display it to the world. This was my first ever graphic design competition but it certainly won't be my last.
